Chattahoochee Food Drive

Thanksgiving has passed and Christmas is around the corner. While everyone is busy with his or her holiday shopping and baking, Chattahoochee High School did not forget about the less fortunate in Georgia and lent a hand to the North Fulton Charities by participating in a food drive. The food drive, headed by the Junior Class Council, decided that unlike last year’s small donation of food, this year would be different- the school would fill a whole school bus.
Starting from the week before Thanksgiving break (Nov 22), the halls of Chattahoochee were filled with fliers that asked for food donations, and students walked around each room collecting boxes of food every day. "I think Chattahoochee did a great job on the can food drive. It shows that we help people not only in times of despair, like when Hurricane Katrina struck, but anytime anyone needs our help,” said Chattahoochee Junior, Vasanth Sathiyakumar. Taking any non-perishable food such as canned beans, fruits, instant rice, and instant mashed potatoes, students, faculty, and administrators were able to fill a room with food. On November 23rd, students and faculty helped load 3800 cans- filling an entire school bus.
Quotes
“It was humbling to see all the food that will help those people. We don’t usually think about that. We are so used to just getting food. I am grateful for the experience of delivering the food; I wish I could have seen their faces when they received it.”—Molly Rhines, junior at Chattahoochee
“Our goal was to collect 2100 cans, one for each student and faculty member at CHS. I was completely overwhelmed by the donations. I had hoped to fill the back of my car, but was ecstatic when we figured out we would fill an entire bus. Chattahoochee has a sincere, deep desire to provide service and charity within our community and world. It was manifested, over 3800 times, over the holiday break.”—Lindsay Eberhardt, junior class sponsor and coordinator of the food drive
“I was proud to come in on my day off to help deliver the food. It was great to see the student and staff impact. The kids’ worked hard at collecting the donations. What a great morning for the Cougars!”—Bea Wallace, teacher at CHS
“It was an exciting and positive experience for me as a teacher to involve my students in giving. The response and willingness to contribute was overwhelming. It was a great example of the Chattahoochee way.”—Kathy Smith, senior class sponsor and teacher at CHS
