The Chattahoochee Forensics team is off to a great start this year. We opened the year with the First Annual Chatathon, a fundraiser filled with debate practice rounds and plenty of pizza to go around. We raised over $5,000 to support our team. We are also selling Cougar Paw magnets for the car or locker. Purchase one from any Forensics Team member for $6. We have already attended many tournaments. Our JV and varsity team members have traveled to Winston-Salem, NC, Dallas, TX, and Chicago, IL, to participate in tournaments. At Wake Forest, Chattahoochee had five of the top 10 JV teams, with Tony Pelli/ Matt Foretich and Ansley Barfield/Simon Mettler winning as co-champions, and two of the top five varsity teams: Utsav Kaushish/Ovais Inamullah and Scott Phillips/Ben Mehling. At the Greenhill tournament in Dallas, Chattahoochee had two of the top 10 teams: Maggy Warden/Brittany Cambre and Chen Ni/ Rajat Dhir. At local tournaments, Chattahoochee debaters captured championships at the varsity, JV and novice levels at Brookwood High School and at the varsity level at Starr's Mill High School. The team is doing so well because students spent all summer preparing at month-long debate camps at Northwestern University, Miami of Ohio, Dartmouth, Wake Forest, Michigan, Michigan State and Emory. Upcoming highlights for the team include more opportunities for the novices at tournaments in and around metro Atlanta, and JV and varsity trips to tournaments in Chicago and Ann Arbor, Mich. We are also looking forward to hosting the Cougar Classic Debate Tournament right here at Chattahoochee on Nov. 11 and 12. Students who are interested in finding out more about debate should talk to Mr. Smiley or Mr. Herndon. Debate is not only fun and challenging with lots of opportunity to travel, it also looks great on a college application. Consider joining one of the school’s "winningest" teams. GO HOOCH!
